Loch Airigh Nan Gleann

Size/Area 12 Acres (5 Hectares)

A small loch which is not heavily fished, with early morning and evenings providing the best chance of sport. The shallows on the west side and the two bays on the east side are worth a try. Take the A859 Stornoway/Tarbert road for about three miles go past the recycling centre and the turning into the Go-cart track for about 100 meters where you will find an unclassified track/peat-road to your left (be careful as you are on a blind summit at brow of the hill). Park at the sheep fank and walk South-east for about five minutes.

Grid reference NB398305
Just off the A859 beside the go cart track

Parking & Access

Take the A857 out of the centre of Stornoway, going straight ahead for another 100 yards at the first roundabout onto Macaulay Road.

Take a left turn and carry on for 300 yards.

Take a left turn onto the A858 and carry straight on up the hill and remain on the main road for about 3 miles (note that it becomes the A859 after three quarters of a mile).

Turn left onto the track at the brow of the hill about half a mile past the turning into the recycling centre and Go-cart track .

After about 330 yards, park next to the sheep fank.  On leaving, please take extra care when exiting from the track to the main A859….you are on a brow which is “blind” especially from the Stornoway direction.
